Deputy Chairmen of the 13 Local Government Areas in Nasarawa State have decried the non payment of their monthly imprest and furniture allowances. 

The Deputy Chairman of Karu LGC, Lawal Yakubu Karshi, made this known when he led others to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Abdullahi Balarabe, on a congratulatory visit at his office in Lafia on Thursday. 

Mr Karshi who is the Chairman of the forum, also called for the upward review of their monthly impress to reflect the current economic realities. 

“Sir, we want to appeal to you to intervene in the area of increasing our monthly impress of ₦200,000 considering the present economic challenges.

“We are appealing to you to intervene for constant payment of our monthly imprest and furniture allowances,” they pleaded. 

Responding, Speaker Balarabe called for calm and assured that the issues would be addressed amicably. 

According to him, payment of impress and furniture allowances to the deputy chairmen would also improve their standard of living and that of the family members among other people.

“I will not be happy if am in your shoes. I will not take the issue likely. You have joint tickets with your Chairmen, is constitutional and payment of your allowances is constitutional. 

“I want to appreciate you for the visit and I want to assure you of my leadership readiness to address your challenges.

“I have heard all your complaints and your issue will be addressed amicably.

“I will invite the chairmen and you people for a roundtable discussion in order to solve the issue once and for all. I acknowledged your understanding and support as well as that of Councilors to the Chairman, please keep it up,” he said. 

Balarabe (APC, Ugya/Umaisha) appreciated the Deputy Chairmen for the show of understanding and support to their chairmen and called for its sustenance.

He also called on the Deputy Chairmen to support the Governor Abdullahi Sule's administration to succeed. 

“There is know local government you go that you will not see Governor Abdullahi Sule's blueprint,” he added.
