JUST-IN:Community Mourns As Boat Mishap Claims Lives Of 4, Including an NSUK Graduate In Awe, Nasarawa State
A boat accident has claimed the lives of 4 residents of Ubbe community in Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The accident occurred on Monday at a river in Hunki community of Awe Local Government Area of the State.
The victims had visited the Area to assist their brother in the harvest of rice when the unfortunate incident occurred while crossing the river.
A brother of the deceased and youth leader, Comrade JD Congo who confirmed the tragedy on Wednesday appealed to the government to put in place measures to avoid future reoccurrence.
“I want to call on governor of the day his excellency the governor of Nasarawa State, Engineer Abdullahi A Sule and the Director-General of the state Emergency Management Agency, Barrister Zachary Allumaga to efforce drastic measures as you're all aware of the water that was said would be released from the Lagda dam in Cameroon.
“However, Government must priotise humanity over any interest as an entity. I therefore appeal to the Government to intensify efforts on the provision of modern boats and life jackets and water taskforce should be locally-sourced,” he appealed.
The victims include a graduate of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Shedrack Dauda who bagged a 2nd upper class of degree.
Others are Akolo Moses, Meshach Dauda, and a 39-year-old Alkali Congo(Alaye) who is a graduate of the College of Education(COE), Akwanga.
