Man arrested for stoning woman who rejected his love proposal
A man from Plumtree, Zimbabwe, has been arrested for assaulting a woman after she rejected his romantic advances for the third time.
The accused, Mhlalisi Ngwenya, allegedly resorted to violence after repeated attempts to court the woman, identified as Future Ndebele, were firmly declined.
The ordeal began in May 2023 when Ngwenya first approached Ndebele with a romantic proposal, which she rejected. Despite her clear disinterest, Ngwenya persisted, making a second proposal months later, which was also refused.
On October 7, 2023, after his third proposal was rejected, Ngwenya allegedly reacted in anger by throwing stones at Ndebele, injuring her leg.
In addition to the assault charges, Ngwenya is also accused of stealing a speaker from a local bar, further complicating his legal troubles.
Ngwenya was apprehended and appeared before Magistrate Joshua Nembaware, where he was granted bail of $30 USD. His trial is set for November 28, 2023.
The incident has drawn concern from the Plumtree community, with residents expressing dismay over the escalation of romantic rejection into violence.
