Nasarawa State Gov Sule Unveils 2024 Nasarawa Governor’s Cup, Lauds FA Over Initiative .
The 2024 edition of the Nasarawa State Governor’s Cup has been unveiled by Governor Abdullahi Sule in a memorable event at the Government House, Lafia.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony on Thursday, Governor Sule reiterated the commitment of his administration to the development of sports in the State.
He commended the Alhaji Salisu Usman Galadima-led board of the state’s Football Association over the initiative aimed at promoting unity and peaceful coexistence in the State.
“Today indeed is one of those days that we are happy that one of us has designed a programme that will make us continue to live in harmony in Nasarawa State.
“Sports unites people of different diversities and now in Nasarawa State we have come up with an event that will bring out some of the best talents that are hidden within the state.
“This has really excited me because we have created a platform to support the breakout of the next generation of stars,” he was quoted as saying.
Speaking earlier, Alhaji Salisu Usman Galadima, the FA Chairman solicited the support of the Government to kickstart the completion.
The FA Chairman lauded Governor Sule for the role his administration played for the return of the state-owned football club, Nasarawa United to the country’s elite league.
“Your Excellency, the FA sincerely appreciate you for giving us an audience despite your busy schedule.
“Your commitment to sports development is greatly appreciated. The qualification of Nasarawa United back to the NPFL shows how much you love and support sports in the state,” he said.
A total of thirteen teams representing the thirteen Local Government Areas of the State will participate in this year’s competition with each getting 23 set of jerseys.
Top officials of the Nigerian Football Federation led by its President, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau will be on ground for the opening and closing ceremonies.
Highlights of the event were the unveiling of the jerseys for all the teams and trophies among others.
