Police arrest suspect for name-dropping Nasarawa governor in #17 million fraud.

Police operatives in Nasarawa State have arrested a 58-year-old man, Shuaibu Isiaka, also known as Ziko, for allegedly defrauding a member of the public by falsely claiming connections with the state’s executive governor.
According to a press release signed by Nasarawa command PPRO DSP Ramhan Nansel and sent to reporters on Sunday stressed that Isiaka, who hails from Tudun Gwandara, Lafia, was arrested by the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Nasarawa State Police Command after a petition was filed against him.
He said the suspect is accused of obtaining N17 million from the victim under the pretense of being able to secure a government contract for them. The fraudulent act was reportedly carried out by name-dropping the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, convincing the victim of his purported influence within the state government.
According to the police, during interrogation, Isiaka confessed to the crime but disputed the amount involved. “The suspect admitted to receiving money under false pretenses but claimed that the actual amount was N14 million and not the N17 million alleged by the victim,” said DSP Ramhan Nansel.
He further said the Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the case. “We will ensure that everyone connected to this crime is brought to justice, no matter their status,” while also emphasized that the investigation would leave no stone
unturned in unraveling the full extent of the fraud.
The police chief further warned the public to be cautious of individuals who name-drop or claim to have connections with influential figures. “These smooth criminals have mastered the art of impressing others by talking about famous people. We urge the public to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to such schemes,” he added.
Meanwhile, the police command has reiterated its commitment to protecting citizens from fraud and other criminal activities. “We are dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, and we will continue to take decisive action against fraudsters,” DSP Nansel affirmed.
The suspect is currently in police custody, awaiting further investigation, as efforts are being made to recover the funds and bring all accomplices to book.
