PRESIDENT OF THE COURT OF APPEAL SETS UP SPECIAL PANELS TO CLEAR OFF BACKLOGS.

The President of the Court of Appeal Hon. Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, has set up special panels to clear off backlog of cases pending before the Court.

Presiding over one of the panels on Tuesday at the Abuja Division of the Court, Hon. Justice Dongban-Mensem welcomed and wished the Learned Counsel a happy and prosperous new year as it was her first sitting for the year.

His Lordship in a bid to decongest the Court and ensure speedy dispensation of Justice, set up 6 special panels with 10 appeals each to be heard.

Hon. Justice Dongban-Mensem taking the lead on one of the special panels alongside two new Justices of the Court, Hon. Justice A.L Ganiyu and Hon. Justice A.R. Mohammed, reemphasized on the need for Counsel to familiarize themselves with their case files before coming to Court.

Noting that Justices were pulled from various Divisions of the Court under tight schedule to sit on the special panels, thus the purpose should not be defeated and time shouldn’t be wasted on minor issues.

His Lordship further urged them to study and obey the Court of Appeal rules and processes in order to ensure cases are properly heard and justice is delivered in ample time.
