JUST-IN:Police Begins Probe Into Shooting Of NSUK Student By Officer In Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to apprehend those responsible for shooting a student of Nasarawa State University, Ikechukwu Godwin, at a checkpoint.

Pqconnect reported that 21-year-old Ikechukwu, a 200-level Computer Science student, was allegedly shot by the police at a checkpoint in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.

it was gathered that the incident occurred at FO1, a residential layout in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory at around 7pm on Saturday.

The father of the victim who spoke with Newsmen on Sunday alleged that Ikechukwu was shot after the policemen accused him of being an internet fraudster and demanded N200,000 from him.

He explained that the son fell into a nearby gutter after he was shot in the foot.

The victim's father said some ‘Okada riders’ (motorcycle taxi riders) brought Ikechukwu home, adding that his son was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to him, two of Ikechukwu’s bones were broken by the bullet.

However, Josephine Adeh, the FCT police command spokesperson, in a statement on Sunday, said a team of detectives has been put on the case.

She added that the investigation aims to provide clarity and hold those involved accountable for their actions.

The statement reads in part, "The attention of the FCT Police Command has been drawn to an incident involving Mr. David Ikechukwu, who was reportedly shot by yet-to-be-identified gunmen allegedly operating from a tricycle and wearing blue and black uniforms on November 09, 2024.

"The Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to apprehend those responsible and to uncover the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.

"The FCT Police Command assures the public that a dedicated team of detectives is actively investigating all aspects of the case. This investigation aims to provide clarity and hold those involved accountable for their actions.”

"We urge members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement efforts. The FCT Command is committed to ensuring justice is served and to maintaining the safety of all residents. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses," the statement added.
