In a landmark decision, the management of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), has officially replaced the Students' Union Government (SUG) with a Students’ Representative Council (SRC), effective from the 2024/2025 academic session.
The newly introduced SRC will consist of 21 members selected based on academic excellence, specifically superlative CGPAs, from the 300-Level students of the 2023/2024 session, who are now entering 400-Level across all departments with eligible students.
Also,Deans of Faculties have been instructed to submit the names of their best-performing students to the Dean of Students’ Affairs for the final constitution of the SRC, which will act as the new student leadership body.
The Faculty and Departmental Students’ Representative Councils will also follow the same merit-based selection process, ensuring that only the second-best to 15th or 17th highest CGPA holders form their respective executive councils.
This marks a significant shift in student governance at NSUK, aligning leadership roles with academic performance while abolishing the previously held SUG elections.
